The music industry is brutal.

Post by sol8 »

Dudes really really drop beautiful albums musically . Kodwa the streams don't do the craft any justice . Even with some PR and buzz .

In the history of music it's never been easier for music consumers to consume music . Any released song is at the tip of our fingers

Is that maybe the issue ?

TikTok is the issue... if youre not a content creator and just enjoy making music... no one will find you... it's no longer even about the music itself... if you have no quality equipment for such TIKTOK videos... goodluck going viral... the algorithm won't even notice you

Data is expensive. We do not have money for subscriptions, and we do not afford to attend shows because we are unemployed, which makes the market concentrate on a few genres and few artists. Artists rarely make comebacks because we move because we move on very easily.

Facts. The music itself isn’t the problem — there’s just too much of it dropping every day. Great projects get buried in the noise before anyone even gives them a chance. Discoverability is the real killer, not the talent.

1. There's a cheatcode(recently) for streams ...Just get the formula right

Secondly it's the timing issue . Most Artists drop their music within the last 1/4 of the year ...80% of the work gets overlooked bcos people are Hit Searching and not ACTUALLY listening to the music.

Its also just establising a bit of a fan base. Necessary engagement, having a few die hard fans that you do not ignore when you glow up as after all the buzz they are the regular listeners  but you need grooves to eat as well

There is a book called " chokepoint Capitalism " by Cory Doctorow, and reading that book made me realize how really bad things are. Individual artists can't really do much. The system is rigged!!!

Access to TV and radio still matters. I’ve witnessed music overlooked because of geography, and creative voices overshadowed by non creatives.

Gatekeeping and payola continue to simulate growth rather than letting genuine audiences determine value.

There are some missing consumers you guys forget, those who used to buy cd's before Musica closed.

It's actually not music related, people don't have enough patience anymore, they are always eager to scroll than to listen to anything longer than 4 minutes

It's Mob pschycology.

Most people only follow trends. They've never discovered music on thir own.

The type of people to hate a sample and love the remake

Pre social media. Songs were selected for us. Music compilers did the job. Now...close to 60 000 songs released daily globally. There is not enough time. Hence tick tock challenges becomes the compilers and PR.

Let's take that Shebeshxt boy as example. His song RATO LAKA is big. Social media is more powerful than record labels

The anticipation of what was going to drop the billboards popping in at musica to check if the album is available yet gave so much value to what we listened now we stream a song for 2 days a week if you lucky and we move on to the next

People like popular songs now… even the DJs :lmao: play what is safe.we also do not share music like we used to, cassette, cd or usb, now its literally there, so we get stuck to our rotation, nothing pushes one to listen to something new, unless I heard it in the club… but DJs

Forget manipulated streams, what matters is who's always consistently booked & the audience actually know their songs. Don't tell me abt big streams but only 2 bookings a month...nah

The market is too diluted, back in the day the way we consumed music was very limited, meaning we listened to mostly the same songs, now we can listen to whatever niche we relate with and that's it

I believe in social media, forget about the record labels. Anyone can drop any song and then promote it on socials and blow up.
