Her family travelled from Ladysmith to Umlazi, desperately searching for her at her rented home.

They searched every inch of the yard — unaware they were walking over her body, allegedly stuffed into a suitcase and buried there by her boyfriend.

Simphiwe was in her final year of a teaching degree.

Her boyfriend, Themba Xaba (22) initially claimed they had argued and that she left with a suitcase.

Her phones and bank card were later found in his possession.

He has since confessed.

"A University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) student from Roosboom, Ladysmith, who was reported missing last month, has been found dead.

Zinhle Simphiwe Mchunu, a final-year Education student, was last seen in Umlazi, where she was residing while studying.

Concern grew after she failed to make contact with her family.

Family members travelled to Umlazi in an attempt to locate her, while a missing person’s case was opened with police.

Police later made a grim discovery on the property where Zinhle had been staying.

Her body was found concealed on the premises.

A man known to the deceased was taken in for questioning and has since been arrested in connection with the matter.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. The investigation continues.

Zinhle’s death has shocked the Roosboom and Ladysmith communities, with many describing her as a dedicated student who had a promising future in education."
