Post by News »

Toyota Quantum taxi crashed into a perimeter fence at the intersection of the M2 freeway and Refinery Road in Germiston this morning.

It is understood that the taxi driver and a female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Five passengers are in critical condition, another five are in serious but stable condition, and three have minor injuries.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services says all injured passengers received medical treatment on scene before being transported to nearby medical facilities.

Rescue teams used specialised hydraulic equipment to extricate the entrapped driver from the wreckage. EMPD officers were also on scene, where preliminary investigations were conducted.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to a pathology facility in Germiston.
