Its called dynamic pricing based on supply and demand. It happens in almost the entire hospitality industry

Happens right across most retail & service markets during Dec period. Avoid the peer pressure to spend during this period and unleash your purchasing power from mid January. I have never looked back since I learnt this. I even get bumped up to business class at no extra cost
