Basically, they wanted him to join their fight becuase they still not getting royalties. They went to other production houses and they sign contracts that don’t give them royalties. I bet it would have been more impactful if they did this in all the shows.

The interviewer was scared, he did not press him. Thando was always pulling back when he looked angry

The guy messed up prime Generations and his legacy was destroyed by that moment. I feel like the whole situation could have been handled better. It’s sad that generation era ended like that.

Decades later SABC is still not paying royalties. I can understand the royalties part not being paid if the shown is not being syndicated on other broadcasters to earn them more revenue.

Royalties as it stands might only be R100 per year max to each actor if any is to be paid but if SABC was forward thinking, they could have done what the Mexican and Indians do by dubbing English voiceover and selling the show to other markets.

The very same legacy he wanted to protect is now destroyed. As a producer he was supposed to have led the strike and request actors to get royalties from the broadcaster. This is exploitation on steroids.

The SABC is repeating these episodes daily, and actors were suppossed to get royalties from that.

Totally disagree with your view. He had no obligation to join and fight their battles. And no this is not exploitation. Who owns the industry? It’s definitely not this black man, so why fight him? But I respect your view.

No. Mfundi didnt have the cards but his involvement on the strike would have made a dent to persuade the broadcaster to review their contracts with producers. This guy was a coward. That strike had potential to change the entire industry.

Royalties are not a right though. That’s like working for Mercedes and demand royalties on every future car they produce. Make it make sense.

How blacks will always go against facts. Mfundi can't pay royalties. SABC owns Generations. He gets paid by the work he does. This is simple. SABC pays him for the show by contract. Where will he get another money to pay them royalty. Only sabc must, if they repeat those episodes

Definition of "There's two sides to every story"

If what he is saying is true, then it makes sense why everyone was fired, and on top of that he gave them days to return to work which they didn't.

His sold his legacy for ego.

There's obvious glitch with communication. My conclusion is he could have done better.

The actors’ contracts were with Generations, not the broadcaster. Therefore, concerns about royalties should be directed to the party they are contractually bound to. Expecting the actor to bypass that contractual structure is procedurally inappropriate. This man is wrong

He was paying them very well in 2013. Sophi Ndaba was the highest paid actor on Generations with R75 000 per month followed by Menzi Ngubane with R70 000 per month. They played themselves.

It’s worth noting that Thato played them actually. They listened to a 29 year old :lmao: :lmao:

I hope you know that there’s tax and agency commission, they could be going home with only half of that

The actors need to understand that THEY ARE THE SHOW. Without them there is NO SHOW. Look at what Generations is now. An unwatchable, bottom of the barrel soapie.

Had he assisted them with their fight, the whole industry would have been transformed by now, royalties would be standard in every contract.
He slept on that one opportunity to leave behind a real legacy.

He created the show yes but the broadcaster [SABC] owns it, that means the strike was misdirected. This should serve as a lesson to the distinction that exists between creation and ownership. He was right.
