FOUR ARRESTED IN SOWETO TRUCK HIJACKING BUST

Four suspects have been arrested following a coordinated operation that dealt a major blow to truck hijacking syndicates in Diepkloof, Soweto.

The arrests were made after the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s Tactical Response Unit (TRU), working alongside SAPS Gauteng PES Flexi, Randtrack and Tracker SA, acted on intelligence about a hijacked truck transporting cargo from Clayville.

Police located the truck while it was being offloaded and moved swiftly to apprehend the suspects.

Four motor vehicles were seized during the operation, including the hijacked truck — consisting of a horse and two trailers — as well as three suspected getaway vehicles: a VW Golf 7, a VW Polo and a Toyota Etios.

A significant quantity of stolen alcohol was also recovered at the scene.

The suspects are expected to face charges of possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle and possession of stolen property. Police say further investigations are underway as authorities continue efforts to curb organised crime and ensure safety in Johannesburg.
