Dashcam camera captures truck accident at Waterval Boven Tunnel

A devastating multi-vehicle collision inside the Waterval Boven tunnel on the N4 led to the full closure of the route, severely disrupting traffic between Middelburg and Nelspruit.

The incident took place on the evening of 19 February 2026.

Drivers heading from Middelburg toward Nelspruit were strongly advised to steer clear of the area and take the Schoemanskloof road as a detour instead.

According to reports from the scene, the crash involved two heavy trucks, two light vehicles, and a City Bug minibus.

Emergency responders are on site providing aid to the injured, removing wreckage, and evaluating the damage.

Operations have been hampered by the tunnel's limited space, leading to prolonged delays.Injury details include nine people with minor injuries, three with serious injuries, and one in critical condition.

While some sources indicate one fatality, this has not yet been officially verified.
